Description:
Attention Weapons Lubricant Manufacturers
The US Army Research Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) has released
Revision E to MIL-PRF-63460, Lubricant, Cleaner and Preservative for Weapons
and Weapons Systems (CLP). The major changes of this revision are; a change of
the test weapon, more stringent performance requirements in cold temperatures,
and increased operating requirements in more severe sand/dust environments.
This specification contains a qualification requirement that provides for
products to be evaluated prior to, and independent of, any procurement action.
Qualification testing will be initiated immediately. Interested lubricant
suppliers are urged to contact the Government qualifying activity identified
below to receive detailed guidance on the qualification process.
Laboratory testing is anticipated to take about 60 days and must be
successfully completed prior to live-fire weapons testing which has been
requested for mid-July. Lubricant suppliers are advised that the cost of
qualification represents a significant corporate investment, and that the cost
will be reduced when several candidate products can be tested simultaneously.
Future CLP qualification after this initial cycle will be adversely affected by
weapons availability and firing range scheduling.
Upon successful completion of qualification, a new Qualified Products List
(QPL) will be published, listing only those products qualified to MIL-PRF-
63460E. Future Government solicitations for CLP will only accept bids for
products listed on the current QPL-63460. Information pertaining to
qualification of CLP products may be obtained from U.S. Army ARDEC, ATTN: AMSRD-
AAR-QES-E, Picatinny, N.J. 07806-5000 or by email at ardec-
stdzn@pica.army.mil. The Army POC for this action is Rex Powell, (973) 724-
6662.
