It has now been over a year since we first alerted you to the dangers associated with use of MilSpec CLP lubricants for small arms, especially in combat operations in the desert.
During this past year, we have done everything we can think of to highlight the extremely critical nature of this continuing problem that is putting our combat forces in danger.
-
We have sent you eight (8) email alerts and copies of first hand field reports from Kuwait showing lubricant failure directly attributable to use of MilSpec CLP weapons lubricant, cleaner and preservative.
- We have supplied names, phone numbers and addresses of eleven (11) POC's at different federal agencies as concrete independent evidence to support our claims.
- We alerted all federal law enforcement agencies of a possible investigation from your office. However, we have since learned that you never contacted them.
- We made you aware that the Coast Guard is discontinuing the use of MilSpec CLP because it was proven to contribute to weapon failure.
- We informed you that for the last ten years Beretta USA, the prime contractor for the U.S. Military's standard-issue small arm, recommends MILITEC-1 and advises against the use of CLP type products. This alone should have warranted an investigation into the facts.
- We provided you the "smoking gun" on numerous occasions, which would have allowed a prompt and complete investigation with minimal or no legwork.
- We also informed you that your own investigators at the DoD IG are using MILITEC-1, based on what the firearms manufacturer instructed them to do.
After supplying you this overwhelming U.S. Government evidence of the dangers of MilSpec CLP, we assumed an investigation would be forthcoming.
Instead, we received an email from you dated January 31, 2003 stating, "This matter was assigned to the proper investigative agency as an information matter. We did not require the agency to conduct an investigation into your concerns." In that same email, an interesting line of instruction was left intact: "insert why we are non-referring their complaint." Please read director Trahan's email message
I was sickened and extremely angry to see this deception from your office. This is yet another example of the reckless and arrogant behavior from your office.
Oh, and let's see - what else happened during that year? Well, a Navy Seal was killed in Afghanistan because he could not return enemy fire. Direct cause? Lu
