Subject: weapons lube
I want to share with you all an interesting morning I just had.
I went to New Jersey to pick up a smartzone radio that MPRI had lent to TF
1-30 for their recent LFX. I saw Cpt. XXX walking along the road,
picked him up and drove him to his HQ. He told me he was doing one of the
investigations on the recent BFV incident on range 4 where the round went
off in the chamber seriously wounding a young sergeant and wounding one of
our OC's. One of his conclusions will be improper lubrication on the gun
that caused the bolt to come forward when the sergeant opened the weapon to
remove the jammed round. The weapon was cool and a cook off was ruled out.
I said "weapons lube???" And he replied that that particular finding would
be in his official report. XXX knows about MILITEC, I gave him some and
he told me the decision to buy is on the CG's desk. He also told me he would
energize "his NCO's" to purchase some today via credit card. (He meant the
battalions, right??)
Later at TF 1-30 I learned from MSG XXX and an E6 whose name I did not
catch, that the phenomenon that causes this is dry bolt seizure caused by
improper lubrication. I asked these guys if they had heard of MILITEC, and
they said yes, but did not have any.
The sergeant who was injured lost both eyes and a finger. Our OC got a little toasted. This sergeant I was told has a six month old baby who he has never seen. He wont see this child ever, now.
Please dont tell me a young sergeant lost both eyes because of a weapons lube. Please dont.
I know you guys have been pushing this.

Cpt. XXXXX will put in his investigation report that improper, read that it dont work, lubrication was the direct cause of the bolt staying to the rear and subsequently ramming forward when the sergeant opened the breech. The result was the sergeant lost both eyes and one finger. Our OC was in the turret assisting and received minor burns. He is oK So,this phenomenon of a dry bolt seizure on the BFV 25mm gun is caused by poor lubrication, not necessarily lack of. XXX/CLP does not work here.
You already know that SSG XXXXX, the master gunner for TF 3-15 IN, is on record and tellling everyone that the MK 19 40 mm grenade launcher will not work without MILITEC
If the 3ID does not buy huge amounts of MILITEC with all this, then they never will and many troops may suffer because of it. We can only hope the Iraqis' weapons lube is worse than ours.

MESSAGEXXXXXXXXXXXX WARNING #8
Dear Mr. Trahan,
I just received this confidential message, from a retired U.S. Military Infantry Officer, who is working for one of our allied countries in the Middle East Region.
Please be advised, (as I have stated repeatedly since January) that the currently issued Mil-Spec CLP weapons lubricant is a sub-standard product for combat operations. I have also advised you, that continued use of this sub-standard product will get someone injured or killed.
Please act on this promptly, before more of our combat troops get injured or killed from a defective product.
Sincerely,
Brad P. Giordani

You did not hear this from me:
Remember the Navy Seal who fell from the CH 47 and died in Afghan ? The fall did not kill him. He lived through that and got into a firefight with local Al Quaeda/Taliban forces. The investigation revealed that the Seal's weapon jammed ( poor lubrication) and he was eventually overrun. Some local tribesmen turned in the body and the weapon soon after the fight.
That is how the government determined it was poor lubrication and a jammed weapon that was the proximate cause of death.
