Selling Coals To Newcastle
Militec Inc., of Washington, D.C., have announced that they are to supply a significant quantity of the company's unique friction-reducing petrochemical technology to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This is the first major order for the lubricant, called MILITEC-1, placed by the Gulf Cooperation Council since the invasion of Kuwait. MILITEC-1 has gained some notoriety at recent defense shows through the company's graphic "nail and steel drum" demonstration. The technology behind the product is currently used by a number of US Government agencies including the military. As to the range of applications, these include use in engines, gearboxes, transmissions, pumps, compressors and various small arms like the M16 rifle, SAW and M92 pistol. For use, a small amount of the lubricant is added directly to the primary lubricant, | as in the case of an engine crankcase, or in some situations it can be used undiluted, as is the case with weapons. MILITEC-1 can be mixed with all traditional lubricants, after which it is undetectable by normal analysis. It will also continue to be effective in the presence of debilitating contaminants such as water, or alcohol, and importantly for weapons, it has a marked resistance to the effects of gritty debris and sand. The company claim a good deal of success in extending the life- cycle and efficiency of engines while at the same time reducing overall fuel costs. The technology behind MILITEC-1 also allows for a catastrophic loss of lubricant while still allowing an engine to run. A factor that has not been lost on the military who see this as a bonus for vehicles caught in dangerous space. |
